Esa forma de pensar como los &quot;inocentes hombres de pueblo&quot; la ha dosificado en numerosas ocasiones en el [[Diario Córdoba]], del que es redactor jefe, a través de columnas de gran valor literario como las de la serie &quot;Jardal&quot; de imborrable recuerdo.<br /> <br /> Hombre sin prisas, que ha hecho en cada momento lo que había que hacer -menos sacarse el carné de conducir- Manolo Fernández ha sido un claro producto de su tiempo, el comprendido entre los años de posguerra y el destape del progreso.<br /> <br /> Fue monaguillo cuando había que serlo; estudió en el Seminario como cien mil niños de la época; fue universitario, como los que no se resignaban a la pobreza en todos los sentidos de un pueblo; hizo la mili, como todos, se echó novia, se casó, tuvo una hija y, además, un piso y una nómina. Ya está.<br /> <br /> Su tiempo se divide en décadas. Hasta los diez años, más o menos, vivió en Villaralto. De los 10 a los 20, más o menos, estudió en el Seminario. De los 20 a los 30 fue la década prodigiosa: universidades de Comillas, Salamanca y Madrid, profesor eventual en un colegio libre adoptado de un pueblo de Madrid, soldado raso aunque propuesto para cabo, trabajador de temporada -durante cinco veranos- en la Alemania de la emigración y en la Barcelona de la mirada por encima del hombro; aparte de otras experiencias personales que sólo son posibles siendo estudiante y no estando atado a nada ni a nadie. De los 30 hasta ahora, trabajo fijo en los diarios [[La Voz de Córdoba - (Siglo XX)|La Voz de Córdoba]] y [[Diario Córdoba]], y familia.<br /> <br /> Aunque tiene completos los estudios de Filosofía y Letras (rama Filosofía) por haberlos hecho en la &quot;Ponti&quot; de Salamanca tendría que haberlos convalidado para obtener el título civil, eventualidad ésta que aún no ha hecho. El título civil de licenciado en Ciencias de la Información sí lo tiene, aunque en Madrid no exigieran tesina y sí en Salamanca (la hizo sobre el granadino Ganivet).<br /> <br /> De siempre le gustó el periodismo cuando descubrió el periódico que cada día recibía la barbería de su padre en Villaralto a los seis años. En el Seminario colaboró en algunas y dirigió otras publicaciones, tanto a imprenta como a multicopista.<br /> <br /> En 1970 hace, desde Madrid, de comentarista de algunos temas nacionales en [[El Semanario Cordobés]], y en otras revistas cordobesas de menor entidad. Hizo las prácticas de periodismo en el rotativo sevillano &quot;El Correo de Andalucía&quot;, escuela de una buena parte de periodistas andaluces. Tras dos veranos trabajando en Sevilla, la dirección lo envió a la delegación que tenía en Huelva. Allí estuvo 9 meses para pasar, finalmente a la delegación de El Correo de Andalucía en Córdoba en junio de 1979. Desde entonces no ha dejado de ejercer en esta ciudad,<br /> <br /> Con otros compañeros, fundó la &quot;Guía del Tiempo Libre&quot; en Sevilla y en [[1981]] se incorpora a la Redacción de [[La Voz de Córdoba - (Siglo XX)|La Voz de Córdoba]] que entonces hacía su aparición en Córdoba. Ha colaborado en diversas revistas andaluzas y ha sido corresponsal de &quot;El País&quot;.<br /> <br /> Pertenece a la plantilla del [[Diario Córdoba]] en su segunda etapa, iniciada en [[1984]], donde ha desempeñado cargos como jefe de la sección, de suplementos y redactor jefe.<br /> <br /> Es [[Premio Paco Natera]] de Periodismo, mención de honor en el IV Premio Andalucía de Periodismo, convocado por la Junta de Andalucía. Preside la [[Asociación de la Prensa de Córdoba]] desde [[1988]].
